Artificial Grass Installation in Rockville, Silver Spring & the DMV
Synthetic turf for backyards, dog runs and putting greens — built on a compacted, drained base across Rockville, Potomac & Bethesda.

Shady lots, heavy clay and dogs wear real grass down to mud in most Montgomery County backyards. NextDayJose installs artificial grass across Rockville, Silver Spring, Potomac and Bethesda — full backyard lawns, side yards that never grew anything, pet-friendly dog runs, backyard putting greens, and turf over tired concrete patios. Locally-owned, licensed and insured, 13+ years of exterior work in the DMV.
Turf is only as good as what's under it. Nearly every failed install we're called to fix — ripples, puddles, a smell that won't go away — traces back to a skipped base. We excavate, lay weed-barrier fabric, and build a compacted crushed-stone base graded to drain, before a single roll of turf comes off the truck.

How We Install Artificial Grass
We remove the existing lawn 3 to 4 inches down, lay geotextile fabric to stop weeds and keep base stone out of the clay, then spread and plate-compact a crushed-stone base in lifts, graded at a slight pitch away from the foundation. Turf rolls are laid with the grain running the same way, seamed with seaming tape and adhesive so the joins disappear, pinned every few inches along the perimeter, and finished with infill brushed into the fibers so they stand up and the turf stays put. Edges tie into a border — a fence line, pavers, or a bender-board edge — so nothing lifts in a storm.
Pet Turf & Backyard Putting Greens
Dog areas get a turf with a fully permeable backing, a deeper base so urine drains straight through, and zeolite infill that binds the ammonia that causes odor. Putting greens use a short, dense nylon or polypropylene surface over a hand-contoured base, with cups, fringe and as much break as you want. Pair either with a new fence to close in the yard, or a patio pressure wash so the hardscape matches the new lawn.

Artificial Turf in DMV Yards
Montgomery County sits on dense clay that drains slowly, which is the single biggest factor in a turf job here. A base that works in Arizona will pond in Rockville after a summer thunderstorm, so we size the stone base for local rainfall and add a drain line wherever the yard doesn't fall away from the house. The other local factor is shade: the mature oaks and tulip poplars over most Bethesda, Potomac and Silver Spring lots are exactly why grass won't grow there — and turf doesn't care.
Two things to check before you commit. Many HOAs in Potomac, North Potomac and the Kentlands require architectural review for front-yard turf, so we provide product specs and a site sketch for the application. And because turf is pervious only when it's built on a pervious base, we never lay it over compacted fill or a new slab — that keeps the stormwater going into the ground, not into your basement.
Artificial Grass FAQs — Rockville, Potomac & Silver Spring
How much does artificial grass installation cost in Rockville?
Most installs in Montgomery County run $10 to $18 per square foot installed, including excavation, a compacted crushed-stone base, the turf and infill. A 500 sq ft backyard typically lands between $5,500 and $9,000. Pet turf with an enhanced drainage base and putting greens cost more. Quotes are always free.
Will artificial grass drain in Maryland clay soil?
Not on its own. Montgomery County's clay holds water, so we excavate 3 to 4 inches, lay a geotextile fabric, and build a compacted base of crushed stone graded away from the house. On heavy clay or low spots we add a perforated drain line so water leaves the base instead of pooling under the turf.
Is artificial grass good for dogs?
Yes, with the right build. We use a pet-rated turf with a fully permeable backing, a deeper base, and a non-absorbent infill such as zeolite that traps urine odor. Rinsing the dog area with a hose weekly in summer keeps it fresh.
How long does artificial turf last?
Quality turf lasts 10 to 15 years in the DMV. What shortens its life is a poor base — settling and ripples — and heavy traffic without enough infill to keep the fibers upright. Brushing it a few times a season and topping up infill every couple of years keeps it looking new.
